MORE registered bidders and a new sale record at the Southern NSW Yard Dog Championship and Dog Auction capped off a successful event.
Wagga Yard Dog Club spokesman Matt Whitley said 38 dogs sold at last weekend's auction where averages were almost $150 higher than last year.
Andrew Kennedy from Canonbar Pastoral Co at Nyngan sold the top-priced dog, Akennedys Foo for $8500.
"The sale average was $2747, nearly $150 better than last year. Thirty-eight dogs from 43 offered were sold on the day," Mr Whitely said.
He said prospective buyers came from as far as Tasmania, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia.
Mr Kennedy, from Akennedys Working Kelpie Dogs, teaches his dogs on Canonbar Station which runs up to 20,000 sheep.
He sold four dogs at the auction and which averaged $6300.
Akennedys Foo, which was two years and eight months old, is off to Nile in Tasmania after being sold to Frank Davies for $8500.
Akennedys Dusty, a 16 month old, was sold for $6200; Akennedys Boss, 23 months, sold for $5250 and Akennedys Butch, eight months, sold for $5250.
The Wagga Yard Dog Club also held its trials with Mitch Duffy from Yass winning the open yard trial with his dog Punk.
Dale Thompson from Victoria won the improver trial with his dog Aker and Rod Turner from Lake Cargelligo won the novice section with his dog Diamond.
